Can anyone enter Fort Meade? ›

Those who are not DoD affiliated personnel must have a valid purpose for entering the installation. To avoid delays visitors should be accompanied by a DoD ID cardholder (generally a service member or federal employee).

Today, Fort Meade is home to the National Security Agency, U. S. Cyber Command, several other large Military Intelligence units, Defense Information Systems Agency, Defense Media Activity and 116 other agencies which serve as the nation's platform for Intelligence, Information and Cyber Operations.

Fort George G. Meade, located mid-way between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., is home to all five branches of the military service – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

Active-duty service members (single or married), retired military, Department of Defense civilian employees and Department of Defense contractors are now eligible to live on post at Fort Meade.

You will need a military or DoD ID to enter the base. Visitors (those with no military or DoD ID) must stop at the Visitors Center just inside the gate and show proof of registration, proof of insurance and a current drivers license to get a day pass.

Today, Fort Meade is the nation's center for information, intelligence and cyber operations. The post is home to all six branches of the military — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force.

Visiting the Museum

Those who are not DoD affiliated personnel must have a valid purpose for entering the installation. Visiting the museum is no longer a valid reason for access to Fort Meade. To avoid delays visitors should be accompanied by a DoD ID cardholder (generally a Service member or federal employee).

There are six access points for Fort Meade, half are located off MD Route 175, while the other half are located off MD Route 32. The Main Gate 3 is open 24 hours, home to the Demps Visitor Control Center (VCC), it's located on the west side of base near the junction of Annapolis and Reece Roads.

The crime rate in Fort Meade is considerably higher than the national average across all communities in America from the largest to the smallest, although at 13 crimes per one thousand residents, it is not among the communities with the very highest crime rate.

The National Security Agency was established by presidential directive on 4 November 1952. In 1957 NSA consolidated its headquarters operations at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.

You can explore the base with your service member and in most cases, you can visit their rooms. While visitors cannot stay the night in the barracks, there are accommodations on base, if you choose, for visiting family members and friends, and your service member can stay the night with you.

PLANNING ON VISITING FORT BLISS? COMMUNITY ACCESS PASSES ARE AVAILABLE. Visitors will be required to bring a driver's license or state ID that is a Real-ID (usually has a star on the ID card) and undergo a background check and sign an agreement of installation rules.

Fort Bragg visitor passes will be issued to those with a valid reason for entering the installation. A security-vetting is required for all visitors.
