The low score this anime has is something I strongly disagree with. I think people are reading the synopsis and jumping the gun when they read about the concept. The story is full of twists, which is unusual for the average bland episodic style that most harems suffer from. Sometimes, however, the story suffers from a bland execution. Characters that grow to us (hopefully right English xD). Very gloomy protagonist (which I personally love). Now there are also a few things that annoy me about this anime. Thus it deserves some points for originality (harem comedies don't usually try to explain *why* all these girls are attracted to the same guy). The story tugs at your heartstrings without being a constant flow of tears, and has a nice chunk of comedy. None of the girls were truly "hate-able" (in my opinion, yours may vary), and each had a different kind of love for the main character, whether it was romantic, sisterly, friendly, or even parental.
